The Simple Woman's Daybook 4.4.12

Outside my window...
it is still dark, but there is a myriad of birds waking up, singing and chatting to each other.

I am thinking...
about which embroidery pattern to choose for my coffee table "slip covers" that I am making.

I am thankful...
that even though temperatures are already climbing in Texas, we have not yet hit ninety degrees.

In the kitchen...
Wednesday is my big scrub down day for the kitchen and I think I am going to tackle the walls today.

I am wearing...
a white blouse and skirt with turquoise embroidery, well...after the cleaning is done, but before my husband comes home.

I am creating...
a lovely vegetable garden (at the community garden property) that I will share in a later post.

I am going...
to set my crock pot outside to cook today and keep the heat out of the house.

I am wondering...
when we get to move into the new apartment we were just approved for.

I am reading...

I literally just finished "Good Christian B****es," by Kim Gatlin last night.  It was amazing and I will have to write a post about it.

I also am halfway through, "Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day," by Winifred Watson.  Also a wonderful book that I will have to write a post about.

I am hoping...
to find a local Red Hat Society chapter to join (I wear a pink hat, but still want to join in on the fun).

I am looking forward to...
going to see the movie, "Mirror, Mirror," with my children.  I enjoy comedy and Julia Roberts, not to mention new versions of classic fairy tales!

I am learning...
that sometimes it can be more than difficult to believe that others cannot respect your beliefs in conversation and try to get you to think just like them.  More and more people just have very bad manners these days.  I believe that everyone should be allowed their own opinion, but sadly, in America where freedom reigns, freedom of opinion (let alone speech) is not allowed in many circles.

Around the house...
there will be music soon.  When I am done with this post, I am going to play some Swing music to get in the groove for cleaning.

I am pondering...
how in the world I inherited my mothers taste in decorating.  She loved all things Victorian and Southern and I am finding that my home is slowly getting the feel of Southern hospitality with a Victorian theme.

A favorite quote for today...

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to the body and soul."
~John Muir

I believe this has always been my highest goal for my home.  A sanctuary of sorts for my family to escape from the horrors of reality into a place of quiet beauty.

One of my favorite things...

A gorgeous Texas Springtime!

A few plans for the rest of the week...

1) I need to write my Grandmothers.  One wants to know more about Southern Hospitality and the other one has a birthday coming up.
2) I need to get all the leaven out of my home...Passover (Pesach) starts on Saturday night for us.
3) I need to try my first loaf of bread in the crock pot outside and see how that goes so that I do not heat up the house.

A peek into my day...

I will be relaxing later today with a lovely cup of sun tea and a few chapters in my book.  Do you have plans to take a break today?  I would love to know them, please share!
